The above is not an abortion.  It is a famous picture of surgery performed on an unborn baby.  I only use it because it is more appropriate to this family-friendly article than an image of violence.

Abortion Stats

In 2023, I wrote an article titled “The Pill” Kills More Than Surgicals where we consider how the Oral Contraceptive Pills (not only the so-called “Morning After” Pills) have abortifacient capabilities.  I propose in that article that an extremely low estimate of zygotes killed after fertilization (but before implantation) is about one billion a year globally, especially when one considers breakthrough ovulation.

Again, the Pill kills more than a billion babies a year.  Similar stats are found in Who’s At The Center of Your Marriage… the Pill or Jesus Christ?  Contraception’s Disintegrating Effect on Marital Harmony a book by Mr. Patrick McCrystal, head of Human Life International of Ireland.

However, some lukewarm pro-lifers desire to see abortion stats that do not include the Pill.  The National Institute for Health reported in 1986 that there were about 1.5 million abortions a year in the United States alone.  Current numbers are alleged to be down since then, but the 1.5M/yr figure may still be accurate due to how many abortions are now chemical instead of surgical.  This means many go unreported, especially since abortion-by-mail pills have begun.  Even Guttmacher admitted that abortion numbers are higher after Dobbs.

Death Penalty Stats

The site Death Penalty Info reads:  “According to Amnesty International’s Annual Death Penalty Report, 15 countries carried out 1,518 known executions in 2024, constituting the lowest number of executing countries for the second consecutive year and the highest recorded execution figure since 2015, driven by increases in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.”  This is clearly an international figure.

How about the United States alone in regards to the Death Penalty?  Pew Research reports: “Nationally, 17 people were put to death in 2020, the fewest since 1991 and far below the modern peak of 98 in 1999, according to BJS and the Death Penalty Information Center.”

Notice above (and through your own research in more recent years) that less than 50 people are currently executed in the United States every year.

Combo Stats:

Using the above secular websites and stats, we can easily come to this conclusion:

-One criminal to every 658,762 babies is killed (while including the abortifacient effects of the Pill) every year globally as we compare the death penalty to abortion deaths.
and
-One criminal to 50,000 babies is killed (while not including the abortifacient effects of the Pill) every year in the Unites States alone as we compare the death penalty to abortion deaths.

Let’s take the less shocking of the two above statistics.  This means that 50,000 innocent babies die to one guilty criminal in the electric chair (or lethal injection) in the United States every year, not including the abortifacient effects of the Pill.

The “Seamless Garment.”

Why would I ever compare such horrendous issues using only cold-cut statistics? It’s not to make us more calloused to the plight of the unborn. It’s because the imposters who have invaded the Catholic hierarchy claim that we pro-life Catholics must “spend equal time fighting the death penalty as abortion.” This is the wicked key to the seamless garment.

There’s a dozen problems with that heresy of moral theology.  We will tackle those in the next article.  But the only one to be made today is this: Even if  “a liberal Catholic” were to reject the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church (namely, that the death penalty is indeed permitted—something proven here by numerous quotes from Church Fathers and Popes) then still he should put 50,000 hours to ending abortion to every one hour he fights the death penalty.

Yes, this is true, even if such a misinformed Catholic were to reject the traditional teaching of the Catholic Church that allows the State to administer the death penalty to certain criminals.

All the more true is it that a Catholic holding to traditional Catholic teaching on both abortion and the death penalty should spend his pro-life time stopping abortion, euthanasia and trafficking (including helping those children raped and killed due to the open-border policies currently promoted by the USCCB and even the apostate Vatican.) The real pro-life Catholic is required to promote—not abolish—the death penalty for those who are truly found guilty of Capital crimes.

We will see in my next article more on how this ties into the heresy of the “Seamless Garment” that devastated the pro-life movement in the United States from the 1980s onwards, starting with disgraced Cdl. Bernadin’s Archdiocese of Chicago.  Sadly, it also holds pride-of-place in the current woke Vatican’s so-called “pro-life” stance.
